Why am I eager to support orphans?
I am not sure the exact reason but I feel I want to support the orphans – as many as possible. I have lost my father in my early 20s… maybe that’s the strongest connection with orphans for me.
I guess this hadith from Sahih Al Bukhari where our prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him) reported as saying – “..the one who cares for an orphan, and myself will be together in Paradise like this and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.” [Bukhari] is my biggest motivation.
What more could we ask if we get to be with him so close in Jannah?
Why Dollar A Day?
- I know the people who are running the organisation and I trust them fully.
- They also focus on Bangladesh and since I am from there, I have a soft corner as I know how many families are suffering in my own country
- Also, Dollar A Day focuses on sustainability – meaning they help the people by giving them the means to look after themselves after the initial support is provided. I feel that’s a huge difference from the conventional NGO model.
How does sustainability work?
Dollar A Day will help an orphan or impoverished kid by providing him/her with three females goats.
The orphans’ guardians will keep an eye on the revenue and use it to pay for food, education, and other necessities of the orphan.
It is projected that within two years, the goat population will increase from 18 to 27.
Dollar a Day will bear the cost of vaccination and other treatments for the goats for a maximum of two years from the initiation of the project.
Each orphan’s caregiving family is expected to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs capable of providing long-term educational financing for the children they care for.
This can eradicate the problems of orphan development and poverty in such societies.
